The Last Campfire: Highlights (our final film!)
This is our final film: the highlights from our closing event ‘The Last Campfire’ on November 5, 2022, where we gave Rebel Wisdom the send-off it deserves.
Featuring John Vervaeke, Ayishat Akanbi, Daniel Schmachtenberger, Adriana Forte and Nick Shore, with 150 people in person and 150 tuning in online from 40 countries. Covering some of the main themes we’ve explored on the channel through different talks and practices, we also hosted the first live conversation between Daniel Schmachtenberger and John Vervaeke. It was quite something, and we’ve left it uncut in this film so you can enjoy it.
You can read about what we’re doing next and how to follow our new projects on this Substack post: rebelwisdom.substack.com/p/the-end-of-rebel-wisdom-and-whats
From both of us, a huge thank you for all your support over the years.

Are we doing self improvement wrong? Steve March
Переглядів 14 тис.Рік тому
Are we going about self development in the wrong way? That's the question tackled by our new film and course with the long time coach Steve March. Steve's work, Aletheia Coaching, has been welcomed and embraced by the likes of John Vervaeke and others in what's been described as the Liminal Web, as it consciously addresses what's called the Meaning Crisis or Meta Crisis. This film is released a...
Iain McGilchrist, 'We Need to Act'
Переглядів 133 тис.Рік тому
Iain McGilchrist has been outlining for many years that a fundamental problem in the way we are perceiving the world is likely to lead us into trouble. Now in 2022 he believes the situation is reaching a crucial turning point and we need to wake up urgently. In this conversation with Rebel Wisdom's David Fuller he talks about how our current culture's domination by a 'left brain', reductionisti...

Greg Thomas is a passionate cultural commentator on the topic of race, and the history of black America, particularly related to musical history. In this conversation with Rebel Wisdom's David Fuller they talk about the contribution of black American music, misconceptions about race in the US and a new way to think about the concept of 'cultural appropriation'. Greg Thomas is CEO of the Jazz Le...
Feminine Wisdom - Schuyler Brown & Samantha Sweetwater
Переглядів 14 тис.Рік тому
Many people have observed that the conversation we have been curating on Rebel Wisdom has featured many more men than women. Of course we have regularly been asking ourselves why that is, and whether there is a more ‘feminine’ contribution to the dialogue that is not being heard? This was the topic I explored with two fascinating women recently, Schuyler Brown and Samantha Sweetwater. Check out...
How Social Media Warps Creators, Tristan Harris
Переглядів 19 тис.Рік тому
There has been a lot of focus on the damage that social media is doing to all of us, its users. This growing awareness was partly fuelled by the work of Tristan Harris, through the breakout hit documentary The Social Dilemma. But there has been less attention on how this new landscape also affects creators, through factors like audience capture and feedback loops that distort truth seeking. Tri...

Where are we headed as a species? What is the landscape of risks and challenges that we need to confront over the next decades, and are there a small number of key factors that we need to solve to avoid catastrophe? These are the questions Daniel Schmachtenberger is laying out in a new two part series on Rebel Wisdom, called 'In Search of the Third Attractor'. As he describes it, the power of e...

The Philosophy of Rene Girard, Luke Burgis
Переглядів 12 тис.Рік тому
One of the most frequently referenced names among many of the thinkers we've been following on Rebel Wisdom has been that of Rene Girard. He was a French polymath, historian, literary critic, and philosopher of social science, who introduced the idea of memetic desire, and an explanation of the function of the 'scapegoat' in organising societies. He was described as the "new Darwin of the human...

In it John and Jonathan reflect on the recent ‘War on Reality’ piece with Paul Kingsnorth and Mary Harrington: ua-cam.com/video/x4kms2jkKbA/v-deo.html They ask whether we have replaced virtue with value. They also take a turn into the question of the occult, where Jonathan and Joh...
Time for the Irrational, Layman Pascal

A wide-ranging conversation on the experience of sensemaking during the pandemic, with Zubin Damania (ZDoggMD). 17:31 - it's nice to hear some of these guys show compassion for her and warning her about the consequences she may face, and not trying to obscure that possibility for the sake of getting the message out. Obviously Cassie thought little of it but it's a nice insight.

"So I might have someone who is in Oakland, and they look on their Facebook feed, and they just see cops killing black people; like their whole Facebook feed is this, and people who are recognizing it and outraged by it, and then kind of what looks like Klan and Nazi members --- because that's what maximizes their time on [the Facebook] site, and their sharing and engagement that maximizes other people's time on site. And I might have somebody in Texas, a Trump supporter, and all they see is people wrongly attacking cops, and black on black violence, and black on white violence. And both of these people are getting vicariously traumatized by what they're seeing, to the point that they're having trauma reactions and they feel like it's a warzone and they have to pick up arms and go out into the street. And neither of them are getting statistical representation of the entire space. And I can scroll for an hour and keep getting more of it, so it seems like it's everything but I'm not even seeing .001% of the total space. Everybody's getting increased certainty, outrage, trauma, and wider apart from each other. This is actually really important; with both of those two people, I might be able to scroll through their newsfeeds for 10 hours and not find a single piece of news in common. It's the opposite of everybody seeing CNN. Now it seems certain that all the people that I know think like me, and all the people that seem like they're making sense think like me. And the only version of the other I get is a pejorative straw man or villainized version. Well of course, that tool by itself will break democracy, break republics, break the social fabric of civilization."

I don't need Ken Wilber to tell me what happened to Jordan Peterson: he was mercilessly attacked, "canceled" and vilified, not just verbally, but in real world ways that upended his entire career, which he worked tirelessly to build over decades, with great love and positive intentions towards other people and society. The way this good man has been treated is both hateful and unjust, and he's been subjected to that treatment to a degree that most of us will FORTUNATELY never experience in this or 100 other lifetimes. We should ask ourselves how we would hold up under that kind of attack? We should ask ourselves why we allow others to be attacked that way? We should ask ourselves what we can do to support him and anyone else facing that kind of thing.

I love the phrase, 'fully automated, luxury Gnosticism." The use of that phrase strikes the target with satirical force. Historically, one theme in philosophy has been the notion that the material world cannot be thought of as actual reality. It is also the essence of pantheism. For example, the Hindu view of the material world is that it is a dream that leads to perceptual illusion, the Dream of Brahma. To find "true" reality, we must transcend the material world to find an intellectual or spiritual reality; which is not as messy as the material world and of which the material world is only a deceptive reflection. The notion behind the denial of limits imposed by the material world, both in the intellectual and the emotional senses, is the same as ancient Gnosticism's denial of the material world as evil. Once Harrington points out how similar our technological, transhuman arrogance is to this ancient way of thinking, the connection is simply impossible to deny. Moreover, the Gnosticism of the ancient world was intrinsically elitist. Ancient Gnosticism required that one be worthy to receive the hidden knowledge. Transhuman Gnosticism requires one must belong to the right technocratic class and mouth its self-contradictory mantras to access the promised utopia.

You can make a show on anything you want but I think it's rude to make a few shows (on air) about someone. It looks a lot like gossip and maybe it's a good idea to do that privately and take a good look in the mirror before you deside to do this again. Btw, I don't know Brian, just from his Icke shows and don't even life in the UK. And remember guys: when you point at someone, 3 fingers point back at yourself. And all you said didn't make a lot of difference; he's still here with interesting guests. So spent your energy on yourself, that is the best thing you can do. Take it from a 74 years old woman. And when you talk about karma: that also counts for you. Everybody had to live his own life no matter what someone else thinks. When you're not clever enough to see that someone is not genuine or whatever, than that is the lesson you have to learn yourself and not by gossip on air by some guys who obviously still have issues with the man.

This was the really first exposure of the anti-american, anti-social, anti-human, anti-God movement of the far right and GOP. It has been a roller coaster ever since. They won in 2016 due to foriegn influence and American interests were saved in 2020. But in 2024 we are still in a wake. A very weak wake, but even weak rip tides can take one out to sea. We as avid beach goers see, recognize and know the flags. But their are many tourists and low information Indivuals that need expert knowledgeable direction even if they know they are expert tourist in their own egotistical minds. GOP has been on a gradual decline for 50 years. But they jumped the shark in 2016 and were solidified as stupid and ignorant after and now. But one must always resist the tide and fight for their own life and those they serve. And the GOP are now clearly the sharks. Never anchor oneself to a party natter what grandpa anchored too long ago. The shores change, the tides do what they do and the sinking party always grasps for the life restraining devices. Do not be their device. Be one who stands and thinks for themselves and never follow what any other says no matter the similarities or differencences. STAND ON YOUR OWN AND THINK!

I know most people do not like their conditioned ideologies challenged. Especially as a relates to religion & politics. As well as monogamy versus other relationship styles. But it should be obvious to even the most amateur observer that monogamy does not come natural to the human species. Whereas pear bonding does come natural to the human species. Marriage is a made of concept. Cheating happened when people break agreements. So I highly suggest that people have a deep conversation with a potential partner,, about their sexual fantasies, kinks and other sexual desires. As well as their relationship goals. Simply looking at how relationships develop and unfold,, There obviously needs to be more acceptance in the diversity in intimate relationships styles. Where there is consent,, there is no cheating. We must accept the fact that we have been sexually oppressed and conditioned by abusive religious ideologies. Release to sex and relationships. That said,, It takes a lot of internal work challenge, social, conditioned, norms,, to non-biased consider benefits of polyamorous/ethical non- monogamous (keyword “ethical”). One must work on their jealousy issues, abandonment issues, possessiveness issues, control issues, etc. to be polyamorous/ethical non-monogamous. Not to mention, improve the communication skills,, with themselves as well as with others. Not everyone is willing to work on those things within themselves or challenge decades of religious social and cultural conditioning,,, on the subject. For fear of being harshly judgment,,, or being ostracized by family, coworkers, society and friends. So polyamory is not going to work for everyone. But it should be obvious that monogamy doesn’t work for everyone either. Just take a very close look at the divorce rates. Look at the generations of infidelity in marriages. Just because we will not confront our natural sexual design. As we try to fit a giant circle inside a small square,, ideology. We are simply not monogamous beings. Many people feel imprisoned Inside of this monogamous made up of ideology. Then there are those who have the courage to look at the subject matter with a non-biased heart in mind. Which takes courage and reconditioning. But it’s healthy self reconditioning. I am polyamorous /ethical non- monogamous,, so I choose freedom. We are all infinite beings of the universe. Our love and compassion and abilities to share that love, our just as infinite as the universe. But that does not mean the irresponsible or careless. Steady yourself,, become a master observer. Connect with people of like mind,, and enjoy your experience. Life, light and Love
